Alec (Rong Wei) Yu commenced his professional tenure at Cohen, Sabsay LLP in February 2010 as a co-op student in Metro College's paralegal program. Throughout his co-op placement, Mr. Yu was recognized by the lawyers and support staff of Cohen, Sabsay LLP as a highly motivated, professional, bright and conscientious worker who possesses an excellent sense of business savvy.
Mr. Yu obtained his paralegal license and appears at court on civil and criminal matters for Howard Cohen and Lorne Sabsay, the senior partners of the firm.
Prior to choosing to pursue a career in the legal field, Mr. Yu worked in several Ontario corporations for over 10 years. This business operation experience has provided him with relevant experience to succeed in his current position as a paralegal with Cohen, Sabsay LLP.
Mr. Yu actively practices in the following areas:
• in the Small Claims Court for any civil litigation below $25,000;
• in the Ontario Court of Justice under the Provincial Offences Act, for example, Highway Traffic Act;
• in the Summary Conviction Court under the Criminal Code (Canada);
• before a tribunal established under an Act of the Legislature of Ontario or under an Act of Parliament;
• before a person dealing with a claim or a matter related to a claim, including a mediator, a person performing an evaluation, an arbitrator or the acting director;
• co-ordinating between Mandarin and Cantonese speaking clients and the counsel in any area or matter being represented by the firm.
